NEW DAILY SHOW MESSAGE BOARDS!

Hey folks! This blog is no longer the place to interact with TheDailyShow.com dev team. We now have a new full-featured forum in which to discuss many topics with other users. And we have created a set of boards specifically to address tech issues. We look forward to hearing from you there!

Daily Show & Colbert Report Full Episode Player

Our Daily Show and Colbert Report sites have a special new feature -- full episodes!

When you arrive at each show's respective full episode landing page, the most recent episode will start playing. There are two buttons on the right: Episode Info enables a synopsis of the episode you are watching to pop up while the Share button enables the user to send the episode URL along with a message to one or more friends. The user can rate the episode with the "thumbs" system after logging in.

When you scroll over the bottom of the screen, a pop-up bar will appear featuring a Pause button, a Volume lever and a Full-Screen Mode option. The Menu contains the Episode Info and Share features found on the right of the screen, but you'll also find a Settings feature. This was created in order to optimize your machine for episode play according to the speed of your Internet connection. You can set it yourself, or you can use the Auto-Detect option.

The tabs below the screen enable you to browse by week -- the last four weeks of episodes will appear. The images contain date and guest info, but you can scroll over these images to receive additional show information.

A lot of the reaction has been very positive so far and we thank everyone for the nice comments. Let us know what YOU think!

Oh No Canada!

Recently we’ve received numerous complaints from people who wish to view The Daily Show online, yet can’t seem to properly receive the content. This is due to the fact that these fans are located in Canada.

In June of 2007, a content licensing deal was announced between Comedy Central and Canada’s CTV network, giving CTV exclusive rights to a broad range of Comedy Central content, in Canada. The terms of this agreement prohibit Comedy Central from serving any online content to people located in Canada.

Of course, the agreement does not prohibit Comedy Central from serving ads to Canadians. This is why citizens of Toronto, while unable to view Mo Rocca talking about politics, are able to see him talking about Blackberries. Obviously it would be preferable to explain this to Canadians more efficiently so they don’t view it as a malfunction of the player app. We will be examining possible means of accomplishing this.

The Way Back Randomizer

Another cool new feature of TheDailyShow.com is called “The Way Back Randomizer”. Simply click the button, it scans the database of shows, and randomly picks one for you. Unfortunately, a bug had caused the results to be limited to only clips from 2007. This has now been fixed!

Wait, what time line?

One of the cool new features of TheDailyShow.com is the Flash time line navigational tool. It allows the user to easily select any month, day and year that the show has been on the air. However, you must have version 9.0.4.7 of the Flash player installed in order to view the time line navigator. So if you don’t see it, get updated HERE.

Why do you love The Daily Show?

One of the more interesting threads posted to the old board before it was taken offline, posed the question to users, “Why are you a Daily Show fan?” A lot of people responded with some very interesting comments. As we read over them, two major themes emerged in their answers.

#1) The Daily Show is better than main stream news:

“I like the fact that John gets people from both sides on the show so that we "normal" people can watch and make our own deductions.” -- mcptg

“…they present more of a viewpoint against both wings, making it the only network that really does seem to be fair and balanced.” -- davee47

“You watch his segment, and you know what the top stories were plus, you get to see him nail the politicos on their dishonesty and hypocrisy. “ -- wise42j

“SOMEBODY has to hold the "regular" news outlets accountable. The show points out details of real news stories that would otherwise not be covered.” -- hollycat

“When the candidates and the news media tout their message they feel the public can be easily manipulated. Jon Stewart understands the public can see through this nonsense and proves it every day on his T.V. show.” -- BarbJ55
“i watch the daily show because i CANNOT stand the mainstream news” -- mkat

#2) The personal charisma of Jon Stewart:

“I'm a huge animal lover, and so is Jon. Most importantly, he's intelligent and witty -- Two things sorely missing in society, at least in men in Georgia.” -- GaDove

“I like short cute Jewish men who make me laugh.” -- hollycat

“It's Jon. I used to watch sometimes when Kilborn had it, but Jon makes the show great. I think it's the Jew-factor.” -- fluffers

Feel free to leave your own comment in response to this post.

Daily Show Boards - Where Are They Now?

RE: Daily Show’ gets own Web site!
posted by ElJefeGrande on 10/18/07 06:33PM

Just checked it out. I got all excited and registered as ElJefeGrande. I went through the entire process only to find no BB. WTF?!

Indeed, the bulletin boards went OFFline, when TheDailyShow.com went ONline. Fortunately for fans, The Daily Show Dev Team is planning a new bulletin board that will feature improvements such as:

  • More robust functionality
  • More pleasant, intuitive user experience
  • Improved graphic design

ETA for getting the new board online is undetermined at this time. But for now, please feel free to use this blog as a forum for interaction with the site creators, and other fans.
