Why do you love The Daily Show?

One of the more interesting threads posted to the old board before it was taken offline, posed the question to users, “Why are you a Daily Show fan?” A lot of people responded with some very interesting comments. As we read over them, two major themes emerged in their answers.

#1) The Daily Show is better than main stream news:

“I like the fact that John gets people from both sides on the show so that we "normal" people can watch and make our own deductions.” -- mcptg

“…they present more of a viewpoint against both wings, making it the only network that really does seem to be fair and balanced.” -- davee47

“You watch his segment, and you know what the top stories were plus, you get to see him nail the politicos on their dishonesty and hypocrisy. “ -- wise42j

“SOMEBODY has to hold the "regular" news outlets accountable. The show points out details of real news stories that would otherwise not be covered.” -- hollycat

“When the candidates and the news media tout their message they feel the public can be easily manipulated. Jon Stewart understands the public can see through this nonsense and proves it every day on his T.V. show.” -- BarbJ55
“i watch the daily show because i CANNOT stand the mainstream news” -- mkat

#2) The personal charisma of Jon Stewart:

“I'm a huge animal lover, and so is Jon. Most importantly, he's intelligent and witty -- Two things sorely missing in society, at least in men in Georgia.” -- GaDove

“I like short cute Jewish men who make me laugh.” -- hollycat

“It's Jon. I used to watch sometimes when Kilborn had it, but Jon makes the show great. I think it's the Jew-factor.” -- fluffers

Feel free to leave your own comment in response to this post.

My journalism professor warned us about the three D's that dominate today's news (and that was in 1993 -- yikes I'm old): death, disease and destruction. I'd like to add fourth to that list: depressing.

Watching the Daily Show enables me to get the news without being completely depressed about it. They cover the real issues and though they might be serious they find a way of making it funny and enlightening at the same time.

I am so glad Jon is back on the air-
I missed you -
Has anyone noticed that the japanese style chef on the IHOP commercial looks suspiciously like Jon? Running a little short on grocery money during the strike?

I also wanted to thank Jon for the even-handed interview style - no matter who the interviewee is. Thanks for being more masture that most interviewers!!

From a Jersey girl who lived on an operating farm in the central Garden State (Cranbury) till 1966 - actually grew tomatoes for ketchup manufacturer in Trenton.

John, your Bolton interview was disappointingly weak. You lethimoffthehook. So many good things you could have asked him. Call me first next time.

John- We love your witty humor that is always based in truth. However, last night I was disappointed that you skipped right over Ron Paul's 2nd place victory in the Republican Nevada caucus. What's that about?

The media blackout of Dr. Paul will not stop the revolution he has started. It moves on at a pretty fast pace. More people join in daily. I never expected you to allow them to black out your comments of Ron Paul. How scary!

Love the show, John Stewart should extend the show to one hour. We could really use some interesting discussion from your guests. The five minute brief talk does not do justice to most of your guests. Example "Sen. Tom Daschle" and his book on healthcare crisis.

Really, you guys should think about expanding. Colbert Report is a great idea.

Also i feel deprived the weeks when John and Stephen, like the oscars week. Please do something you have created a monster (good one) that cannot be stopped.

I can't believe the show hasn't taken the COLBERT NATION and made the ploy on OBAMA NATION!
